What a Body Coacher eats in a day

If you think healthy eating means bland salads, cutting out your favourite foods, or spending hours in the kitchen, think again.

We wanted to share some of the banging meals people on The Body Coach app eat every day to show that healthy eating can be simple, satisfying, and seriously tasty.

Kim, 32, is a stay-at-home mum of two who joined The Body Coach app in December 2023.

After trying different approaches that never quite stuck, she was looking for something that would fit around family life, work, and the reality of being busy.

“I joined BC in December 2023 when I realised I was heavier than I was at nine months pregnant with my first daughter. I’d tried running and a couple of classes but nothing was really sticking. I needed something I could fit in around my toddler and my Etsy business,” says Kim.

One of the first things she noticed was how much she enjoyed the food.

“From the beginning I loved the food on the app. They’re filling, tasty meals and no food groups are cut out. That was important to me as I wanted to set my daughter a good example and not instil a fear of certain foods,” she says.

So what does a typical day of eating look like for Kim?

Breakfast

Kim likes breakfasts that are simple, filling, and easy to fit into family life.

Some of her favourites include:

  • Almond and honey pancakes with blueberries
  • Smashed peas with poached egg on toast
  • Smoked salmon breakfast bowl (with chicken swapped in instead)

“Blueberry pancakes are frequently on our weekly meal plans,” says Kim. Body Coach breakfast

Lunch and dinner

When it comes to lunches and dinners, Kim often chooses recipes that are easy to adapt and work with the ingredients she already has at home.

“The meals are easy to adapt if you don’t have an ingredient, which is probably why the plan works so well for us. If I had to worry about counting calories or making sure I had every single ingredient just right, I’d never have stayed on plan,” says Kim.

“I also have a strong dislike of fish, but instead of just dismissing those recipes I usually see if I could swap it out for chicken instead.”

Some of Kim’s favourite lunches and dinners include:

  • Chicken korma
  • Chicken pot pie
  • Simple sausage stew

“The simple sausage stew is one of our favourite meals, it’s incredibly quick to make and uses just one pan. We even made it for dinner this week while we were camping,” she says.

Snacks

For snacks, Kim enjoys recipes such as almond butter crispbreads with raspberries and coconut.

On especially busy days, smoothies are often her go-to option.

“On really busy days it’s great to know I can just throw together a filling smoothie; I usually have the ingredients for the Pecan Pie smoothie in my cupboard and it’s one of my favourites,” says Kim.

Making healthy eating work as a busy mum

With a toddler, a baby, and a business to juggle, planning ahead plays a big role in helping Kim stay on track.

“I’m a stay-at-home mum, but having a toddler and a baby while running my Etsy shop keeps me pretty busy. Planning the week ahead is important for keeping us on track and we’ll often double up on dinner one day so we have lunch for the next,” she says.

She also likes to think ahead when it comes to meals around her workouts.

“I often do my workouts at lunchtime and if I don’t have a leftover refuel ready, I can usually prep something such as putting frozen chicken in the oven, so that by the time I’ve finished my workout my refuel is almost ready.”

After more than a year on the app, she’s found that meal planning has become even easier.

“The longer you’re on the app the easier meal planning gets too. I’ve unlocked hundreds of recipes now and when I plan the week ahead on a Sunday afternoon I can see which recipes use similar ingredients so things with short shelf life don’t go to waste,” says Kim.

And there’s another reason the recipes work so well for her family.

“The meals are also easy to make. I’ve just had my second baby, and while I was recovering, my partner, who rarely cooks, took over all meals and had no problem creating my favourite app recipes for me.”
